description: Nearly 6 years ago I sold a few Leonard rods that Larry Foster (Former Owner of H.L. Leonard Rod Co) had made for himself and a few friends. These rods were some of the finest Leonard’s I have seen to date. Most were made in the last days of Leonard or on the way out the door but surely these rods were not put together in someone basement as some had suggested. I would place this rod in that same group as custom Leonard’s made at the request of Larry Foster. This Leonard Salmon Series rod model 72-6 or 9ft 6wt 3/2 is nothing short of amazing in all respects and has its place in history with the Leonard collectors. Less the a dozen were ever made this being the 6th rod built in 1983. The rod is New with plastic on the grip. Stunning blond cane with transparent wraps tipped in red ala Catskills style with gold wrapped at the ferrules, transparent wraps and intermediate wraps for the full length of the rod, Beautiful clear white agate stripper guide, Tiger maple wood insert with aluminum up-locking logo reel seat and fighting butt. This rod would feel right at home in a Museum but could in up in your collection. Only one issue is the rod tube is a little small for the rod but works just fine. I myself would add a custom Arne Mason case to set off the rod. The rod sock is the correct period sock.
